Alexi, the Born to Run Global Sighthound Rescue Borzoi, was going to be adopted by a wonderful Chinook Winds adopter in Alberta… we just had to get him there! Geoff and I took a drive down to Custer, Wa. with Shale, to pick him up at Xan and Humphrey’s acreage. They had made the trip to Portland, Oregon earlier that day to fetch him! Thanks, guys!

Before putting Alexi and Shale together, we thought we’d let them burn off some energy in separate areas! Did they ever enjoy themselves!

Once they were both pooped, we brought Alexi in to the larger paddock to meet Shale and another South Korean Borzoi rescue, Katie. Katie (previously called Korean Breeze and then Coco) was our foster girl for 4 months and we adored her. She was adopted by Xan and Humphrey in December, where she is the reigning (and a wee bit spoilt) princess lording it over greyhounds Pogo and Brilly. She has an awesome life with them!

Then it was time to come back to Canada.

A few hours later, Geoff and I drove with Alexi and Shale to meet up with Leah and Bill in Salmon Arm. They brought us 3 beautiful hounds that were headed to preapproved homes in BC., and they were taking Alexi the rest of his way to Alberta and his new Mom, Ilona!

The following morning, Alexi continued on with Leah and Bill and we started towards home. Some very excited families were waiting for their new greyhounds!

Thane was such a good traveller.

Flora was adorable, but did attempt to drive a couple of times. LOL

Shale was bored with the whole thing!

Velo and Flora (who are the best of friends) snuggled the whole way back. Sweet!

And then we arrived in Port Moody and everyone met their new family members!

Unfortunately, we have had to suspend our organized greyhound walks. Sharon’s beloved hounds are older now and no longer able to go for any distance. I am sure you all join me in thanking Sharon for the years that she headed these walks!

From Michael, Hogan’s Dad and best friend:

Certainly for the short time he was with us, it was amazing to see how he genuinely appreciated his new life. Every moment for him was like that – getting into a fluffy dog (or people) bed, going for walks and car rides, meeting new people and animal friends, enjoying affection from his new family and definitely returning it in a big way! I know he was very, very happy to be here with us and we are grateful we were able to provide that time for him. He was truly special and those are not just words. It was unanimous among the people he met – everyone was in love with him instantly.

Hogan, what can I say about you other than you were perfect. (Your family) Michael, Maureen, Mona, Sean, Patrick, Mini and Kato miss you terribly. Sharon and I loved you as well and cannot believe you are gone. We had just seen you at PetSmart where you had given the visitors your all.

Rest well sweet, sweet boy. You will be in our hearts, always.

Now that Sharon has decided she absolutely cannot part with her foster Borzoi Kir, it’s time to introduce both he and Shale through pictures! I know they aren’t greyhounds (LOL) but they are sighthounds and beloved new members of our respective families.

Geoff and I have experienced 2 big losses in the last few months and knew we had to bring another special boy home to help heal our hearts.

Geoff named him Shale.

He is lovely to Breezy (although she is still sizing up the giant hairy creature). LOL

Last night, Geoff lay with our “little boy” Canyon in the back of the van and lovingly helped him cross the bridge.

CANYON was a very unusual greyhound. In fact, he was quite inappropriate at times! LOL He actually made some of our greyhound friends scream in terror when he bared his teeth in a smile! (Angharad!)

God, how he could make us laugh! We loved him all the more for his lack of decorum!

It was an amazing experience to have been graced with littermates. For although they’d been separated many years, it was uncanny how alike they were!

I only realized it this morning, but Canyon left us exactly 6 months after RIVER.

“CHARLIE” formerly known as Chainsaw, became terminally ill the day after Finn arrived in Lantzville. He was lovingly helped to the bridge the next afternoon by his heartbroken Mom, Lynne. We were all in shock to hear of the passing of this sweet young boy.

Charlie, thank you for sending Finn to your Mom and Dad, when you knew they would need him most.
